Birthday girl~

Binky is finally 7~ She is the youngest of all her little friends, that I know of. I remember thinking...she is ony 4, when we put her into kindergarten, but that was how old I was, and I had to go the entire year at the age of 4.

I get a lot of questions on how Tommy and I came up with all of our kids' names. Brinkley is easy. She is named after Christy Brinkley. How we came about the name is slightly different though. Until the day we found out we were having a girl, we never talked of names. Jax had such an unusual name that we didn't think we could match it. Once baby colors were set in motion after the ultrasound, the name game started, and ended abruptly.

Tommy and I were sitting on our couch one night watching T.V. while I was reading In Style magazine. There was an article about what a wonderful life and 4th marriage Christy Brinkley was having. It talked of her career and all her children. When I told Tommy that one of her little girls was named Sailor, he thought it to be a different but cool name. I agreed and immediately said, I think that Brinkley would be a great name for a girl. The hunt was over that quick. We both fell in love with it immediately. From 18 weeks on, she was BRINKLEY NICOLE JENSEN.

Not so much for others though. Some people remember that Tom Hanks had a dog named Brinkley in, "You've Got Mail," and others said that it was, "too" different. (Then again, one of our good friends said the name Jax Jensen sounded like a porn stars name so go figure!!!) We love "different" in this family.

Brinkley was the only one of all three of our kids that I actually went into labor with. I will never forget how everyone kept asking, "How can you be in labor with contractions less than a minute apart and not know you are having the baby?" Well, let me tell you...

I was one day overdue with Binky and my doctor was not big on inducing or C-sections unless it is absolutely medically necessary. Tommy was on the motor working midnights for the DUI squad and I was still working full time. We had some sort of fight. To this day, I still have no idea what it was about but when he slid into bed at 4:30 in the morning, after working a 14 hour shift, I sat straight up in bed and told him I didn't feel very good. He dozed as I walked around for about an hour or so hoping Jax would stay fast asleep. He was only 19 months old at the time so keeping him asleep was more of a priority than how I was feeling.

I had been induced with Jax, three hours into it, they gave me the epidural so I never really felt contractions. Tommy must have known something was not right with me because he basically slept with one eye on me for quite awhile. I finally grabbed a watch and told him that I thought "maybe" I was having contractions and "maybe" we should time them to see. Again, being induced, a machine did all the work for us...we had no idea what we were doing. We actually did them right though. Start....duration...stop. Start...duration...stop. This went on for about an hour until he actually figured out that my contractions were a minute apart and I was having them every 3 minutes or so. So I did what any normal girl would do... I called my mom.

Mom immediately told me to call my doctor because we were having this baby. I still did not think I was in labor. SERIOUSLY. We called and when my doc listened to me on the phone....unable to speak through the contractions...she panicked and asked how far we were from the hospital. GREAT..... we have to get Jax to Grammie and Grampie Jensen's before we go.

By the time we got to the hospital I could not walk and was sick. The nurse checked me and I was only at a 3 but since I was a day overdue... we were going to have a baby...but it wouldn't be for at least 6 hours...It was already 9:00 AM by the time we were checked in and I was set.

I WAS TOLD TO START WALKING.

I walked 20 feet to the nurses station and nearly fainted from a contraction. I could not even walk back. We seriously only walked for 40 seconds and the nurse got me back into bed to re-check me to make sure the baby was fine. I was at a 6.5 already.....and begging for the epidural. My kids don't mess around. Scrap the whole 6 hours idea... they prepped me for the delivery room. By the time we got moved and the youngest doctor I have ever seen in my entire life gave me my drugs, I was at a 9 and my doctor came in to check how things were. WHATEVER. She decided she still had time to check charts downstairs and left and within 5 minutes the nurses were all yelling that I was having Brinkley with or without this doctor. Two little pushes and there she was.......screaming and pooping everywhere!!!

To this day, Binky is my toughest child. She has the strength of boys twice her age and the attitude of an adult. She has a spirit that can not be broken and a mouth that scares most out of their minds. I will never have to worry about Brinkley getting pressured into doing stupid things. She will flat out tell people when something is stupid or wrong...I think she, unfortunately, gets that from me.

Binky is strong willed and I wouldn't want her any other way...
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BABY GIRL!!!
