It was about 10 years ago this week that my mom and I flew to Tahiti for 10 days. What an amazing trip it was. That was when I absolutely fell in love with Tahitian pearls. They were so beautiful and everywhere but too expensive for me to justify buying one! Tommy and I were dating at the time and for us to be apart was difficult, to say the least. I will never forget the day we flew home. We had a horrible time in customs. Our flights were late causing us to detour through Vegas because we had missed our connecting flights.... (normally this would never bother this gambling girl) and all I wanted to do was get home to Tommy.
It was 1998 and they had just imposed the new restrictions on picking up passengers at the gate so I figured it would just be my dad at the airport. Tommy was waiting at 1:30 in the morning next to my dad grinning as we stumbled down the concourse to them! I had fallen madly in love with him the first time I had ever seen him when I was a rookie in field training in December of 1996, so to have him waiting for me after such a long trip was heavenly!
One month later we were engaged...and married within 6 weeks! Flash forward 10 life~filled, super~amazing years and I am standing in Pudgie's bedroom painting Patrick after a really bad day. A REALLY BAD DAY!!!! Brinkley ambles in the room first and says, " We have something for you that you do every year." I guess I am a bad mom because I don't even turn away from the big pink blob I am painting and just sorta grunt at her. The next thing I know, Jax is flopping into Pudgie's crib as Pudgie is handing me a package saying, "MOMMA?"
As I have told everyone....Tommy never surprises me...... things just don't shock me, and rarely am I stunned into silence. This time I was. Our ten year anniversary is not until May but Tommy decided to surprise me. I almost fell over when I opened the box and inside it was a double stranded choker of Tahitian pears and diamond/rhodolite garnet drop Tahitian pearl earrings. They are amazing and so is he. I could not ask for a more wonderful man to share everything in life with.....
I don't want to post the pictures because I am sitting with a paintbrush in my mouth the entire time I am opening this package..... because the entire time I am opening it I am thinking Tommy had purchased night vision bionaculars for his squad....it's a long story!
Thank you my love, for this beautiful present and for the last ten years that have been filled with more love and excitement than many could ever imagine. It may not be our anniversary but that doesn't matter..
