LITTLE HELPER~

(DISCLAIMER~ I HAVE ADMITTED IT ONCE BEFORE... SO NOW I HAVE MADE TWO HUGE MISTAKES IN PAINTING IN MY HOUSE. I AM NORMALLY REALLY GOOD WITH COLORS AND CHOOSING WHAT THE NEWEST TREND WILL BE BUT THE LAST TIME I PUT TAN AND PURPLE STRIPES TOGETHER I NEARLY VOMITED... THIS TIME, IT TOOK ME FOREVER TO FIGURE OUT THAT I REFUSED TO DO LAUNDRY AGAIN, EVEN WITH THE NEW LG RED BEAUTIES I GOT, BECAUSE MY LAUNDRY ROOM WAS BLACK! VOMIT ALL OVER AGAIN. PUDGIE AND I WERE ON A MISSION TO FIX IT TODAY)

MANY MIGHT ACTUALLY ASK ME:

"WHY WOULD YOU LET PUDGIE HELP YOU PAINT YOUR LAUNDRY ROOM?

BECAUSE~

PAINT WASHES OFF (EVEN WHEN YOU HEAR THE DREADED, "OH NO, DON'T LOOK AT THIS MOMMY!")

EVEN 3 YEAR OLDS NEED ART MASTERPIECE!!!

BLACK IS NOT GOOD IN A LAUNDRY ROOM AND PUDGIE AND I LIKED TIFFANY BLUE!

IT IS QUALITY TIME THAT COUNTS, NOT QUANTITY, WHEN YOU ARE DOING SOMETHING WITH YOUR LITTEST DUDE! (AND LOOK AT HIS SMILE!)
HE IS STARTING PRE-SCHOOL NEXT WEEK, I AM TRYING TO GET THE MOST OUT OF OUR DAYS TOGETHER WITHOUT GOING CRAZY!

AND FINALLY,

I REALLY BELIEVE,

EVERYONE JUST WANTS TO PAINT NAKED!!!

ALL GOOD THINGS

must come to an end.

Admittedly, I am actually sad to see our summer come to an end. This past weekend and week have been extremely trying on the crumb-snatchers but other than those few days, we had a super-fan-tabulous kind of summer. It, by far, has been our best ever!!!!

On Saturday night, we took the kids to Valle Luna, for Mexican food, for dinner. During their "I must act like the worlds worst children moments (ahem, Brinkley and Justice)," we discussed what we did this summer and recapped all our fun moments.

1. The day after school got out we headed north for Jerome. Haunted hotels and history made for an exciting 3 fun-filled days.

2. Denstist visits were for the entire family and Brinkley had her first molar pulled!

3. Venturing out to go see the movie, "UP," was the best decision Pudgie ever made!!

4. Jax and I decided to visit the emergency room late one night. He had a 104.7 fever becasue of his dang tonsils.

5. We added two little girlie girl cousins to this house for 5 days and hit the little water park, the regular park, swam, ate tons of ice cream and laughed until milk came out of some noses, some nights!

7. Finding your freezer in your garage has been left open for days on end could ruin anyone's week. Not mine though.... warranty paid for the food and bought me a new freezer and refrigerator to boot! Thank you again Jax.

8. A surprise trip to Big Surf was a hit since they didn't have to wait for the end of summer to go there.

9. Jax had his tonsils taken out and had a hard two weeks following the surgery.

10. Brinkley spent 8 days away from home during Jax's recovery. She had a blast!

11. Just in the nick of time, Jax was well enough to visit Grammie Alkire to explore all her land and spend a few days with her right before Sea World and the beach beckoned our names. We were off for a few adventure filled days.

12. School clothes and supply shopping filled a few of my days.

13. My never ending birthday celebration! Wet~n~ Wild, Valle Luna, and anything else my heart desired was right in front of me!

All in all I think the munchies had a great summer.

Brinkley was anxious to return to school since she had the same teacher she had in kindergarten (but that is a huge mess of a story). Jax was reluctant because his teacher was new to 4th grade but had been teaching kindergarten. As you can tell, I am getting used to the whole school thing because this year, there were no pictures. I didn't need for daddy to get off work early to be here and walk with us. I just walked them to their lines and left for the gym. I have even offered to let them walk alone this year, but I got turned down in that area! I am sure it will come but for now I was just worried how the first day would actually go.............

After I picked them up from school today I was almost feeling guilty that I really did not miss the fighting that had been going on for the past week.

The pure excitement in their voices was music to my ears.

Jax loves his teacher and realizes he is so lucky and that she is absolutely wonderful! Brinkley, was extrememly upset that she was not in her friend Ali's class this year. She would have been had I not butted in but it has turned out to Brinkley's advantage and she is so happy that she has Mrs. Mendoza.

I actually cried that they were so happy this year. Jax had a rough start last year so my heart was just so full that this is going to be a wonderful year for them.

Now on to getting Pudgie man ready for school next week!

YIPPPPPPPPPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AGAINST SOCIETY...

HERE'S TO THOSE THAT CHOOSE TO GO AGAINST THE NORM AND DANCE TO THEIR OWN DRUM.

I HOPE I AM RAISING MY KIDS TO DANCE LIKE EVERYONE IS WATCHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

~BIRTHDAY SUIT~

4 YEARS RUNNING

IT IS A TRADITION NOW.

YEAR ONE I WAS 9 MONTHS PREGNANT WITH PUDGIE. PEOPLE WERE NERVOUS. THEY THOUGHT I WAS NUTS. I HAD TOMMY, SO I DIDN'T CARE, AND HE BLOCKED EVERYONE FROM RUNNING INTO ME.

YEAR TWO I HAD A 7.5 MONTH OLD IN MY ARMS THE ENTIRE TIME. AGAIN, PEOPLE WERE NERVOUS AND THEY THOUGHT I WAS NUTS. PUDGIE HAD ME, SO I DIDN'T CARE, AND I BLOCKED EVERYONE FROM RUNNING INTO HIM.

YEAR THREE WE HAD A LIFE JACKET ON THE PUDGIE AND THAT YEAR, I THOUGHT I WAS NUTS. IT WAS A BLAST AND NOW THE KIDS KNOW IT IS A TRADITION.

YEAR FOUR AND WE WENT ALL OUT. WE CELEBRATED MY BIRTHDAY AT WET~N~WILD, INSTEAD OF BIG SURF, AND MAN OH MAN DID WE HAVE A BLAST. ARMED WITH A LOT OF MY PAIN MEDICINE, THREE CRUMB-SNATCHERS THAT COULD BARELY CONTAIN THEMSELVES AND ONE HUBBY WHO MADE THE DAY PERFECT, WE SET OUT FOR A BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION WITH MY SISTER, HER TWO LITTLE GIRLS AND MY MOM..... IN OUR BIRTHDAY (SWIM) SUITS!!!!!!

WE GOT LUCKY AND RENTED THE LAST CABANA OF THE DAY AND GOT FOOD SERVICE AND A TELEVISION, A CEILING FAN, INNER TUBES, CHAIRS AND CHAISE LOUNGE CHAIRS INCLUDED. WELL WORTH THE COST. THE SHADE WAS A BONUS DURING TIRED TIME!!!!

WE SPENT THE DAY WAVIN' IN THE POOL, GOING DOWN THE TOILET, HURLIN' OURSELVES INTO THE TORNADO AND GETTIN' WET ALL OVER IN THE KIDS AREA.

SPENDING MY BIRTHDAY'S AT A WATER PARK HAVE BECOME A FAMILY TRADITION FOR US. THIS YEAR WE CONVINCED GRAMMIE DIANE TO BRAVE THE PARK AND HAD THE BEST TIME. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO MADE THIS BIRTHDAY THE BEST DAY EVER FOR ME!

TRISH, THANK YOU FOR THE GINORMOUS BIRTHDAY COOKIE. IT WAS FAN-TAB-ULOUS AND WE SNUCK THAT BABY INTO THE WATER PARK AND ENJOYED IT LIKE IT WAS NOBODY'S BUSINESS! I COULDN'T ASK FOR A BETTER FRIEND... YOU EVEN KEPT THE DOZER GIRL FOR US ALL DAY... I LOVE YOU WOMAN!!!

THREE-EIGHT

YIKES

IT IS ALREADY HERE, EVEN THOUGH WE WON'T BE CELEBRATING UNTIL TOMORROW, AND FRIDAY AND SATURDAY!!

SOMEONE ASKED ME A FEW DAYS AGO IF I WISHED I WERE TURNING 24? "NOT ON YOUR LIFE," I SAID. IT IS AMAZING HOW WHEN I LOOK BACK AT MY LIFE, I WOULD NEVER CHANGE A SINGLE THING ABOUT IT AND I WOULD NEVER WANT TO GO BACK.

I HAVE RECENTLY FOUND OUT THAT YOU CAN'T CHANGE WHO YOU ARE, NO MATTER HOW MUCH IT HURTS PEOPLE SOME TIMES, YOU CAN'T CHANGE WHAT YOU BELIEVE AND YOU CAN'T CHANGE WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THINK AND FEEL. ALL YOU CAN DO IS ACCEPT, FORGIVE, TRY TO FORGET AND MOVE AHEAD. AT 24 I WOULD HAVE MOVED AHEAD BUT I WOULD HAVE PUSHED ALL THE BAD STUFF ASIDE AND WALKED ON BY MYSELF, INSTEAD OF FACING THINGS HEAD ON.

YOU NEVER FINISH GROWING UP AND FORTUNATELY, YOU NEVER STOP LEARNING. AT 24 I THOUGHT I KNEW EVERYTHING THERE WAS TO KNOW ABOUT LIFE, LOVE AND THE PURSUIT OF FAME AND FORTUNE. BOY WAS I EVER WRONG. I AM CONTENT WHERE I AM IN THIS LIFE. 38 IS GOOD FOR ME. IT SUITS ME WELL. AGE IS REALLY ONLY A NUMBER AND HOW YOU LIVE YOUR LIFE IS WHAT MAKES YOUR REAL AGE. SO IN ALL ACTUALITY:

I LOVE THAT I AM 38.
I LOVE THAT I HAVE 3 KIDS THAT ARE BECOMING SELF SUFFICIENT
I LOVE THAT I HAVE SEEN THINGS THAT MADE ME STRONGER
I LOVE THAT I HAVE A HUSBAND THAT PUTS ME IN MY PLACE SOME DAYS
I LOVE THAT I HAVE MADE MISTAKES AND HAVE LEARNED FROM THEM
I LOVE THAT I AM SECURE IN BEING THE WOMAN I AM
I LOVE THAT I STILL LOOK PRETTY GOOD FOR 38
I LOVE THAT I STILL HAVE PASSION IN MY LIFE
I LOVE THAT I HAVE AN AMAZING HOME
I LOVE THAT I HAVE AMAZING VEHICLES
I LOVE THAT I DON'T NEED THOSE MATERIAL THINGS TO BE HAPPY
I LOVE THAT I HAVE A NEW PUPPY THAT MAKES MY FAMILY SMILE
I LOVE THAT I AM ABLE TO WAKE UP EVERY DAY
I LOVE THAT I HAVE THE SAME PRIORITIES AS MY HUSBAND
I LOVE THAT I HAVE FINALLY GIVEN IN TO TEARS
I LOVE THAT I HAVE LEARNED AND CONTINUE TO DO SO
I LOVE THAT I HAVE FAMILY AND FRIENDS THAT ARE NOT PERFECT
I LOVE THAT I AM ME
I LOVE THAT I AM 38 TODAY AND I WOULDN'T WANT TO BE ANYWHERE ELSE!

The truth...

HURTS.

I am thinking that, maybe, just maybe, "honesty is the best policy," may not be all that.

Honesty is good. Honesty is right. Honesty is a trait I think everyone should strive for. But.....

At what point do you realize that sometimes honesty can be down right destructive to a heart. So destructive that the heart feels like it has been ripped out, shredded and then shoved back down your throat in a feeble attempt to make it all "better."

What if that honesty destroys someone?

What if it crushes their soul and tramples their idea of what they thought they had?

What if that honesty ruins them in a way that, well, no one will ever really see but will notice that the "something" that made them special or made them, "them" is simply non-existent now?

What if that honesty was thrown out during a time when tempers were heated? And that honesty changes everything. And you can't go back. And you can't take it back, because it was the truth. And looking forward is not an option at this very moment because you are physically drained, in shock, scared, emotionally stunned, and you feel numb?

What if that, "honesty," was not the best policy and somehow it is too late?

PS. TOMORROW IS TODAY AND IT STILL AIN'T BETTER. TOMORROW WILL BE BETTER. I KNOW IT!

NOT SO GOOD

THIS IS THE CRUMB-SNATCHERS LAST WEEK OF SUMMER BREAK. I AM ACTUALLY SAD THIS YEAR.

IT HAS BEEN AN AMAZINGLY FUN SUMMER, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF JAX'S TONSILS.

I WANTED THIS LAST WEEK TO BE THE BEST YET AND OF COURSE, I GO AND BLOW THAT LAST NIGHT. I GUESS FOR MY OWN SAKE, I AM OWNING UP TO IT.

MY KIDS NEVER SEE ME UPSET. I DON'T LET THAT HAPPEN. THEY HAVE SEEN ME MAD BUT NEVER SAD, AND LAST NIGHT, THE TEARS CAME AND THE LAST THING OUT OF MY MOUTH TO THEM WAS, "FOR ONCE THIS IS NOT ABOUT YOU THREE. BEHAVE AND LET ME BE," AS TEARS STREAMED DOWN MY FACE.

WITHIN 10 SECONDS JAX WAS AT MY SIDE. IT SHOOK HIM TO SEE MOM LIKE THAT. HE HUGGED ME TIGHT AND CRIED TOO. I FELT BAD THAT HE SAW ME LIKE THAT.

NEXT CAME THE BINKY. SHE WANTED TO SNUGGLE. AT LEAST THAT WAS HER EXCUSE TO GET THE 4-1-1. IT DIDN'T WORK. I TURNED HER DOWN ON CLIMBING INTO BED WITH ME. SHE CRIED AND HUGGED ME AND ASKED IF I WAS OK. IT MELTED ME A LITTLE TO WATCH HER WALK OUT OF MY ROOM DEFEATED.

I FELT DEFEATED. MY WORLD HAD CHANGED IN AN INSTANT AND SEEMED TO BE SPINNING OUT OF CONTROL. I DON'T THINK I WAS THE ONLY PERSON FEELING THIS WAY.

I WOKE WITH A SPLITTING HEADACHE FROM 2.5 HOURS OF DOZING. SLEEP DIDN'T HAPPEN LAST NIGHT. MY EYES LOOK LIKE I WENT 10 ROUNDS WITH ROCKY. MY NECK HURTS AND WORST OF ALL... MY HEART HURTS.

FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MANY, MANY YEARS... TEARS COME TOO EASILY FOR ME. MAYBE THIS IS JUST WHAT I NEEDED. GIVE WAY TO THE TOUGH GIRL EXTERIOR AND LET IT ALL JUST FLOW.

THE KIDDIES WERE VERY UNDERSTANDING WHEN I ASKED IF WE COULD POSTPONE THE REST OF OUR SHOPPING PLANS 'TIL TONIGHT OR MAYBE ALL DAY TOMORROW. THEN, WITHOUT ANY KIND OF BRIBERY, THEY AGREED AND LET ME BE.

I GUESS ONE DAY TO WALLOW IS FINALLY ALLOWABLE FOR THIS MOM.

TOMORROW WILL BE BETTER!

S "lacking"

I have been enjoying summer. A lot too much. I love that my kids want to sleep until 9:30 am. Ok, I love that Pudgie will sleep that late, Binky is sleeping until noon some days. If I can keep the little guy in bed, I get to stay in bed. WIN~WIN all around.

Not really though. I have lost the thrill of the workout feeling. I would rather lounge in the pool than lift 80 pounds three times for max load on my should press. I would rather sit and plan my re-decorating ideas than row and do barbell thrusters. ANYTHING, but the gym.

I blame this on the beach, Shampu, any new movie out on DVD, my new Escalade, Jerome, Big Surf, my new Dyson ball vacuum, and Wet~N~Wild. It really is all their fault. I would rather be anywhere else, doing anything else, than swinging a kettlebell or wall balling.

Alas, it is time. Back to the basics of the butt searing, lung exploding workouts that I really love. And since we have no more vacations planned for a little bit, I suppose I should get back to the dedication that had me into my size 5's.... because before I know it, our cruise will be here and I best have my abs back!

I think I may take a few walks just like this tonight!!!

~DEDICATION~

You think you know pain, but you have no idea. The heart thumping, chest expanding, lactic acid burn of your last workout was a walk through the meadow.

Somewhere, there’s a guy who did it in half the time it took you. He suffered. Plasma forced its way into his lungs, causing him to hack on repeat. He choked down bile halfway through, and ended on his back, pupils dilated to the size of dimes. While you were walking around, telling your friends how hardcore your workout was, Guy Number Two was still collapsed, the prospect of driving home as daunting as climbing K2 during a snowstorm.

When he finally stood up, he didn’t say a word. CrossFit is a decidedly masochistic pursuit. To be any good at it, you have to enjoy the pain. You have to push back the threshold day after day, until last year’s traumas feel like an hour-long rubdown at the Canyon Ranch. One day, you find a threshold that takes the whole thing just a little too far, and you get scared to go back.

The men and women that decimate your times are not superhuman. They’re not particularly genetically gifted. Hell, most of the top CrossFitters in the world would get absolutely pummeled in your standard game of rugby, buried by larger athletes begat by larger parents.

What differentiates these individuals is not a gift, but an unreasonable desire to push self-imposed suck beyond its logical limits. What comes out the other side becomes legendary.

Like any human pursuit, we seek ways around the hard part. Limited range of motion and new techniques. Dropping the deadlift from the top, bouncing it off the floor. Squatting above parallel and not standing up all the way. Chicken-necking above the chin-up bar, and reviewing the tape to see if we made it. We want the reward (speed) without the sacrifice (pain).

This is not conscious cowardice. It’s pure out-and-out rationalism. Atsomepoint, the next threshold is the one that takes it too far, leaving us in an exercise-induced hallucination that lasts a few moments too long. Our hearts bounce around our insides for one beat too many, and our lungs beg to explode for an unwanted extra second. Every exhalation coincides with a constriction of vision, and the cold taste of copper. No sane human being would enjoy such a feeling.

Still, the glory beckons. Surely, with enough training and the right supplements, there’s a way around the Hard Part. Enough sleep and enough vitamin B will get you the sub-whatever time without the attendant pain. There’s no need to redline your heart rate or pop capillaries. No need to ache so badly at night that you can’t sleep. Surely, there are ways around this. Fortunately, the steroids are a no-go, and the exercises are done correctly or not at all. The only way to legend is through ever-mounting piles of pain. The meadow has to tilt at 45-degrees, and he rubdown at the Ranch must be done with Brillo Pads. If you can talk, you’re not trying hard enough. If your nerves aren’t frayed and ready to rebel, you’ll never get there.

Do yourself a favor, and realize that there’s no technique in the world that will save you.

There are no pills, no secrets, no passwords on the path to greatness. You’ve got to embrace the pain, push the threshold, and feel the suck, and then you’ve got to muster the courage to go back six times a week.

After all, the world is a lot brighter when your pupils are the size of dimes, and massaging your sternum with your heart starts to feel good after a while. The plasma finds its way out of your lungs, and eventually you’ll be able to drive.

Sometimes, lying on the floor is its own reward.

SHAMPU AND FRIENDS

I have to admit, Tommy and I have never taken our kids on a vacation with friends. We have gone with my family or Tommy's mom and step dad, but never with friends and all of our kids, together. This past weekend was a first for us, and undoubtedly, it will not be the last.

We had so much fun heading off to see Grammie Alkire on Wednesday morning. Tommy worked all night on Tuesday so he had no problem what-so-ever falling to sleep the second we headed out the driveway. (For the third time since he kept forgetting everything)

Now, as a person that is impeccable with directions (I am not bragging, I just have a freakish thing for remembering directions anywhere I have been... no matter how long ago!!!), I must say that the navigation system in my new Escalade was a waste of money, but I happily apease my husband and let him plug in addresses and off we go.

I am not good with a computer speaking to me and telling me to do things and go in directions that I am not used to going.....especially when I know how to get somewhere. Tommy made fun of me all weekend for arguing with the navigation system. (he has made fun of me since we got his BMW and I sit and argue with the talking woman about her directions) I am not kidding when I tell you I screamed obsceneties at it quite frequently and rather loudly. At one point, I was traveling a road with signs saying, "NO LONGER MAINTAINED BY AZ DEPT. OF TRANSPORTATION." All I could think was, "are you friggen kidding me?" I am going to Yuma ( I have been there over 200 times... I could drive there asleep) and here I am parallel with an unknown railroad track, in an unknown area and I am screaming at the computer who keeps saying, in the most annoying tone known to man, "IN 3 TENTHS OF A MILE YOU WILL VEER SLIGHTLY LEFT.... IN 1 QUARTER OF A MILE YOU WILL TURN RIGHT" Is it wrong that I nearly shot my nav screen?

My kids were laughing, I was on the phone nearing tears with my mom, Tommy was sleeping oblivious to everything and Pudgie was singing to the movie BOLT. B*E*A*U*T*I*F*U*L!

Suffice to say, I made it to Yuma and turned it off. Tommy drove into Campo from there. He thought it was funny...hilariously funny, until Sunday... but that will come later. REMEMBER HONEY...PAYBACKS!!

We were so excited to get to spend time with Grammie Alkire. We intentionally took an extra day just so we could hang out at her house, hike and explore and just relax. Grammie lives on 15 acres in the mountains and it was downright freezing in the middle of the night there. Tommy and I slept with the sliding door open and our guns close at hand... since Mexico is so close... but loved the fresh air.

After our time in Campo we headed to La Jolla to see Tommy's sister Michelle, her daughter Lexi and to spend the day on the beach. I felt so bad for Binky when we found out that Lexi would be bringing a friend to the beach with us. Brinkley was devastated that she would not have one on one time with her favorite cousin. It all worked out though!

This was Pudgie's first time seeing the ocean and it did not disappoint. He fell head over heels in love with the big pool as he called it, until a wave knocked him on his little tail. Then he got mad and threw sand at it. They became best friends after that. Our day was spent building castles and exploring. I personally hate sand, but love the ocean. I could have spent a week there but cringed when it came time to leave and there was no place to wash off. We headed off to our hotel to do a quickie clean up and off to dinner with the Patterson's we went. We were so excited to get all the kids together and just sit and relax. I had to tell Dawn's mom and dad how jealous I am that they travel with their daughter and the three grandkids on every vacation. Dinner was a blast with all of us just laughing and hanging out!

The next morning brought on SeaWorld and as Pudgie now calls him... Shampu! It was actually a shorter day than we expected. We got to see the Shamu show and the 12 of us dined with Shamu and relaxed all afternoon. Jax started feeling a little sick at around 6 PM so we called it a day. Although we all agreed that we had a good time, next time... 7 days straight at the beach and shopping. NO MAJOR TOURIST PARKS TO VISIT!

Instead of crashing when we got back to our hotel, we hooked up the kids with pizza and hung out by the pool and jacuzzi for awhile. It was a great way to end the day.

At the last minute we decided to head over to Coronado Island on Sunday, rather than go straight home. I am not a fan of bridges. My family finds this very amusing. I nearly hyperventilated going over the bridge this time........At any rate, we had a great time exploring the Hotel Del Coronado and doing some last minute shopping. We finally set out for home around 3 PM. That is when things got funny...

Tommy decided to plug in YUMA, AZ into the friendly navigator in the Escalade. Within 20 minutes we were being pulled over by San Diego Police..... for whatever reason, he made an immediate u-turn after we all got stopped and we were off and running again.... into the middle of no where that we knew. Tommy followed the route that the truck was leading us into and at one point, we were very thankful to have three fully loaded weapons with us. I had to wonder if we were still in the U.S. at one point.

I almost cried I laughed so hard when Tommy pulled over and started yelling back at the Nav system.... just like I did on the way to Cali. We ended up traveling through an Indian reservation on the southern side of I-8 (the southern side of the mountains and National City, Spring Valley and Syucma (or some strange spelling like that) It wasn't all that bad. Actually, it was really entertaining. We finally arrived home to one happy fat cat that missed his little girl and a broken kitchen refrigerator.

AHHHHH there's no place like home... even when it's kinda broken!

PAY BACKS~

I know that it is usually called Paying It Forward, but for us, as of late, it is considered paybacks.

For quite a few months now, well actually, all my life, I have randomly given what I can to homeless people, or just people in need, in general. It is usually $5 or $10 or whatever I really can spare at that moment in time. I never look back and never expect anything in return. My parents have always done the same and this is where I learned it from.

On our way to San Diego, we made the usual stop at McDonald's in Yuma. I had driven the way there (you will read about that great adventure soon) and waited for Tommy to come back to the truck to beg him to drive into San Diego.

I stood outside the passenger door and watched a man sitting on the sidewalk with a sign stating that he was a plumber in need of work. He was not begging and was not bothering anyone. I had to work very hard not to watch him. My kiddies were also watching him.

Tommy came back to the truck, hopped in the drivers seat and without a second glance, asked me, "Did you give him some money for lunch?" I told him no and he shocked me by asking me why not? I don't know why it came as a surprise, but it did. We ended up buying this man lunch and he asked if I would like a rose made from palm frawns. My mind raced back to the crosses made at church on Palm Sunday. I initially told him no thank you and started back to our truck. He asked me again, "Are you sure you don't want one?" I about faced and told him, "You know what, I would absolutely love one."

It has a PERMANENT place in my visor now.

The conversation that followed was basically how much Tommy has been helping those that he sees at work. He had never mentioned taking people to get them dinner or water or something to help them. I was so proud that maybe something I do was rubbing off on him. I ended the conversation with, "We are so lucky. I am a firm believer that God rewards those that help."

Fast forward to Sunday when we got home...LATE.

Our refrigerator in our kitchen was not working. The panel for the ice maker/dispenser was just flashing and making clunking noises. This happens every time we go to Cali. Something breaks. Last year it was an A/C unit. I cringe upon every return.

Just my luck...... the repair man comes today and the first thing he asks me is..."Did anyone mention how much it costs just to have me come to the house today and how much the diagnosis costs." I must have looked like I was on the verge of tears because he got on his phone right away..and 5 minutes later announced to me that Maytag would pay for the part. Then he told me that the part was over $300.00. It took my new favorite repair man 1 second to diagnose the problem and 7 minutes to replace the part. He saved me over $350.00 in parts and tax.

I bought this sweet man lunch today too. (and then some, I suppose)

PLUS~

This has been a long week plus.
I had no idea how much my boy was going to suffer getting his tonsils out.
It broke my heart every time he came to me in tears with only squeaks coming out.
Binky traveled to my sisters house.
I thought it would be good for her to get away.
She was so missed.
Our house was very quiet, except for Pudgie.
Pudgie has been lost.
With Jaxi down for the count and Gockie gone he had Dozer.
She bites when Pudgie plays too rough.
He had Mommy. She gets mad when he throws yogurt.
He had Daddy. He spanks when he screams in high pitches for no reason.
Our house was lonely.
Movies and ice cream and new trees, new fridge and freezer just didn't cut it.
Today, the boy felt so much better. That made me feel better.
Pudgie was better. We finally got our Gockie girl back.
Her giggles were contagious as she ran through the door to her best friend.
Jax missed her just as much.
The ginormous cat meowed with delight.
Dozer jumped like a kangaroo.
Our girl is home.
Our home is back to normal.
Whatever that is.
I have missed the craziness in our house more than I realized.
Let our summer resume!
